Goodwill Niagara provides volunteer opportunities for individuals wanting to gain valuable work experience, skill development or satisfaction of giving back to the community.

 

We are currently looking to hire:
 

DRIVER/WAREHOUSE PERSON

 

Job Summary:
 

Responsible for various duties which includes driving and loading of trucks for deliveries, donation pick-ups, as well as assisting in unloading of goods, baling and storage.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

Responsible for operating vehicle according to safety rules and procedures
 

Performs all required loading and carriage responsibilities and the related paper work as directed by the department supervisor
 

Advises the department supervisor of vehicle and equipment servicing needs
 

Collects all donations from bins and pick-ups at donors’ homes
 

Unloads donors’ vehicles and processes tax receipt donations as required
 

Provides assistance and courtesy to store customers and donors
 

Receives incoming store supplies and verifies that goods correspond to quantities invoiced
 

Performs baling and storage functions
 

Assists with regular store housekeeping and cleaning to include bins, shelves and floors. Performs other general duties when needed
 

Requests help from department supervisor in the event of unusual difficulties or problems
 

Resolves any safety and potential accident concerns and reports these to the Director of Human Resources and/or safety committee member
 

Actively support and promote the mission and values of Goodwill Industries Niagara
 

Conforms to all Health and Safety regulations and procedures as laid out in the Employee Handbook
 

Qualifications:
 

Valid “G” class drivers’ license
 

O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education preferred
 

Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions and the ability to adapt to a variety of tasks
 

Ability to use common sense, courtesy and good judgment, as well as promote a positive work environment and support team effort
 

Strong customer service and problem solving skills
 

Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
 

Physically capable of standing for long periods of time, bending and pushing heavy loads
 

Safely carry items weighing 50 to 100 pounds a minimal distance of 40 feet
 

Ability to throw large garbage bags of textiles weighing up to 50 pounds a minimal distance of 15 feet
 

Capable of working at a pace that could safely move at least 4000 pounds of textiles in one hour, and keep up that pace for 4 continuous hours working unassisted
 

Ability to safely lift items such as stoves, refrigerators, freezers and sofa beds to a height of 3.5 feet (42 inches) with the aid of one person and capable for carrying these items a distance of 100 feet with the aid of one person
 

Ability to tolerate a dusty work environment
 

Maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certificate
 

Complete and maintain a clean criminal reference check
 

Working Environment:
 

Driver/Handler is required to work in a warehouse environment.

SALES ASSOCIATE – ALL LOCATIONS – FULL TIME & PART TIME

 

Job Summary:
 

Assists the retail team in the operation of a retail outlet, training centre and donation processing centre.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

Responsible for pulling clothes from bins to examine and determine appropriateness for sales floor in accordance with established standards
 

Examine shoes, electrical and mechanical merchandise and other non-clothing items to determine appropriateness for sales floor in accordance with established standards
 

Places saleable clothing on hangers to meet established quotas. Hangs clothing on racks for transporting to the sales floor, keeping similar types of clothing grouped together
 

Counts pieces of clothing hung and completes and signs off on a daily report reflecting totals
 

Processes customer transactions at the cash register as required and practices proper money handling procedures and ensures money is secure at all times. Upholds Customer Service Policy.
 

Greets donors to receive merchandise, providing donor with a tax receipt number if requested. Places donated items in appropriate containers
 

Reports known or suspected safety, security or theft problems to the Store Manager/Supervisor or other member of senior management team
 

Performs other job related duties as assigned by the store Manager, Supervisor or Lead Associate
 

Actively support and promote the mission, vision and values of Goodwill Industries Niagara
 

Conform to all Health and Safety regulations and procedures as laid out in the Employee Handbook
 

Qualifications:
 

O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education preferred
 

Previous experience in a retail environment an asset
 

Strong customer service and problem solving skills
 

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent command of the
 

English language both written and verbal.
 

Strong data entry, key boarding skills and mathematical skills required
 

Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
 

Experience working with individuals with disabilities, mental health issues or other employment barriers
 

Valid Driver’s License and transportation an asset
 

Valid CPR/First Aid certificate an asset
